For more information watch the video, read the tex, or visit our page on the Accoya website: http://www.nathanmccarter-accoya.com

Accoya ® wood is the result of decades of research and development that has brought together a long-established, extensively proven wood modification technique and leading-edge patented technology – acetylation to create a high performance wood, ideal for outdoor use and challenging applications.

Accoya ® has properties that match or exceed those of the best tropical hardwoods and treated woods, yet is manufactured using wood from sustainable sources.

Already the material of choice for a wide range of demanding outdoor applications, Accoya ® wood can be used for virtually anything from windows to doors, decking to cladding, bridges to boats and even for applications that are presently only feasible with non-sustainable and man-made materials.

Accoya ® is the world’s leading high technology long life wood.

Further Information about Accoya®

Accoya ® wood is a high performance wood. Created from sustainably-sourced wood, Accoya ® undergoes a proprietary, acetylation process that permanently modifies the wood to the core.

The result: an environmentally friendly solid wood with durability, dimensional stability and beauty that matches or exceeds even the best tropical hardwood.

Accoya ® wood is sourced from sustainable sources, including FSC and has class leading environmental credentials such as Cradle to Cradle™ Gold certification by the highly prestigious McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) organization.

Accoya ® wood is perfect for demanding applications such as windows and doors, where it is important that tolerances are tight yet regardless of the conditions, they open year round. Accoya ® is perfect for siding where wood’s natural beauty is desired, but sustainability and high performance are of the utmost importance. In decking, where it is important that boards do not warp, twist, bow split, Accoya ® is up to the challenge.

CE Mark – Product Compliance

The requirement to CE mark external timber windows and doors will become mandatory on 1st July 2013.

CE Logo & BSI Logo

CE marking is a key indicator of a product’s compliance with EU (European Union) legislation and enables the free movement of products within the European market. CE marking confirms that a product satisfies the legislative requirements, e.g. a harmonised level of safety, to be sold there. It means that Nathan McCarter Joinery & Furniture has verified that the product complies with all relevant essential requirements, eg health and safety requirements, of the applicable directive(s) or, if stipulated in the directive(s), had it examined by a notified conformity assessment body.

The CE mark is specified by the EU but refers to the relevant country’s regulations. Within the UK this enforces compliance with Building Regulations (Part L), which is applicable for all external windows and doors covered by the legislation. Within the UK the legislation will be enforced by Trading Standards, NOT building regulations.

CE Marking will affect ALL joinery manufacturers. DO NOT think that because you make a one off window or door that you will not have to CE mark. This is not true.

If an item requires a U-value then it also needs a CE mark.

Some joinery companies are still not providing u-values or the correct u-value, which relate to building regulations – Part L. This stipulates (since October 2010) that external windows need to have a u-value of 1.6 for a renovation project (or 2 in a new build) and external doors require a u-value of 1.8. If you are currently just calling the local glazing company for the u-value of the glass this is not the same as the overall u-value. The overall u-value is based on the following; type of timber, centre pane u-value and the Psi value of the spacer bars (see below). It is likely although not confirmed that u-values will be lowered in April 2014.

If a u-value is not required due to conservation exclusion then CE marking will not be required either.

Most ‘Bespoke’ windows WILL require a u-value as they are not truly bespoke. (Truly bespoke windows will be exempt from requiring u-value and therefore CE marking.)

Most joinery companies use standard section sizes. If Nathan McCarter Joinery & Furniture has used the same section size before then the item is NOT bespoke and if Nathan McCarter Joinery & Furniture uses the same section size again then subsequent windows of that section size are not bespoke either.

Joinery & Furniture Testimonials

Please take a look through some of our Joinery & Furniture Testimonials from some of our many happy clients.

Would like to thank Nathan McCarter for his quality of workmanship which is outstanding, and would recommend Mr McCarter without reservation.

Mr Rains –

The cupboards look fantastic and the workmanship is fabulous. Your employees were very professional and a real perfectionists.

Thank you for your care and attention.

Mrs Layland

I am writing to express our appreciation for the excellent joinery work that your company has done in our house this summer. We commissioned an architect to help prepare plans, however being strangers to the south west we then needed to identify competent craftsman to help with the essential works.

With thirteen sash windows in the main part of the house needing attention, as well as replacements for seven PVC windows and doors in the rear tenement, this was obviously a major important part of our rehabilitation work. We met and discussed our needs with four joinery companies and eventually selected Nathan McCarter Joinery & Furniture.

We appreciated the thorough investigation and planning that you did and were equally impressed when we visited your workshop for discussion.

We were keen to replicate the original windows and the quality of the products delivered was superb. The accompanying installation work was extremely professional and, in particular, the special attention given to detail and careful installation within the 180 year old house structure. Exemplary craftsmanship for which we are very grateful, thank you.

Mr M Nightingale

Thank you very much, I am very pleased with your work and look forward to using it for years to come.

Mrs Adams

I should like to thank you for your attention to work. It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride for us all but we have finally got there and we are very pleased with the end results. I imagine that you have learnt a lot about old listed buildings along the way.

Mr & Mrs Stapleton

Thank you so much we’re both really pleased with the work that has been done, Thank the lads for us.

Matt & Gill

Many Thanks for sorting out the windows , I am very pleased with them.

Mrs Thomson

We would just like to say how pleased we are with the finished job. Your employees coped admirably with all the problems thrown up by out of plumb walls, doors and windows in an old Cornish cottage.

Mr & Mrs Tasker

We commissioned Nathan to make some sash windows for our Victorian house. We felt we owed it to our house to have wooden replacements instead of cheaper plastic options. We met with Nathan and knew straight away we’d found our man! Glass, colours, time frames and fitting were all discussed and then the most amazing windows arrived on a cold December morning. I needlessly fretted about our house being an ice box during the fitting and dirty boots on our carpets. Nathan’s fitters were a credit to the Company, jolly and professional and more to the point- experts in their field. How fantastic to spend a winter with no condensation and windows that go up and down with ease. We had a couple of glitches, (new windows in an old building, I suspect) but Nathan or his fitters were there in good time to rectify this.

We’re delighted with the standard of craftsmanship and the choice we made in choosing Nathan McCarter Joinery. We will continue to recommend them and if we ever achieve our dream of building our own home, Nathan will be a first port of call.

Mr & Mrs Ludwig

Nathan McCarter Joinery gave courteous, efficient service and provided excellent craftsmanship when our window needed replacing. We would not hesitate to use the firm again.
